Painted Pieced Pictorials with Helen Godden

Helen loves the look of a pieced pictorial combining colours and geometric shapes, interesting angles and a simplified representation of landscape. The difficulty for Helen is that she does not piece…..therefore introducing this NEW 3-day workshop. This class is based on Helen’s AQC challenge entry for 2024 called “The Stars That Guide Me Home”.

Day 1. Bring along a few favourite landscape photos. With Helen’s guidance students will identify the key features and shapes and directional lines to create a simplified landscape representing a potentially “pieced” pattern. The beauty of this design technique, is that we can break the rules of traditional paper piecing as we are not sewing the pieces, we are painting. This will be enlarged ready to trace onto black fabric.

Day 2. Helen will demonstrate her painting techniques with her favourite Lumiere metallic fabric paints. Students will look at blending and mixing techniques to create numerous shades to represent different “pieced fabric”. Students will have a relaxing day painting their design onto black fabric.

Day 3. With loads of demonstrations by Helen, students will enhance their piece with a wide variety of free-motion quilting styles to complement their work. This class will be very exciting as student’s see their OWN designs come to life in full colour and confident complementary quilting – your very own Painted Pieced Pictorial.
